Laurence Bouchard is a Tokyo based street photographer. Originally from the UK, Laurence moved to Tokyo in 2009 and this sealed his interest in photography forever as he navigated (and attempted to understand) this exciting, vibrant and eccentric new culture. Initially he was using just his iPhone for photography which led to Apple selecting him to represent Tokyo for their iPhone 7 campaign in 2017. After the iPhone 7 campaign Laurence invested in a Sony digital camera and now continues to shoot with both cameras interchangeably – continually adapting him- self to new technologies and techniques that can push forward his art.

Photography is a way to escape the real world and exist in the moment. For Laurence, street photography is almost akin to playing a sport on one hand whilst meditating on the other. Many sports demand the ability to ‘read’ the game as a crucial skill and it’s the same in street photography. Over the last few years Laurence has been particularly drawn to the abstract and surreal and his attempts to interpret and express this perspective have galvanised Laurence’s focus on geometry in urban environments.
